Watercolor and colored pencil are
combined to give the painting soft
flowing color and crisp detail at the
same time. It allows the artist to
give the artwork more depth and
character than either medium
alone.

The watercolor is applied to the
heavyweight watercolor paper first
to the point of being an almost
finished watercolor painting. Then
the colored pencil is added to
sharpen the detail "down to the
whiskers and eyelashes".
